The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) operates one of the nation’s largest health care systems, providing health care to Veterans at estimated annual costs of about $48 billion. VA relies on electronic health record systems to create, maintain, and manage patient health information.
Specifically, the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) has over 1,500 facilities (e.g., hospitals and clinics) throughout the United States. VA utilizes a medical information system, the Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA), which has been recognized as one of the best healthcare systems in the world. The documentation that currently comprises the Veterans longitudinal record consists of records that physically exist in both paper and electronic formats that are maintained in different places.
Concept Plus is providing Java and MUMPS software development services in support of the VA’s migration to new platforms and Graphical User Interface (GUI) that will allow for better extensibility and modularization to allow beneficiaries to receive improved patient-centered care and have access to a comprehensive medical profile that supports a seamless transition of care between VA facilities.
